Wassup Rocker Radio Mixtape #3

All NEW songs! This week’s video mixtape begins with a song by Canadian Psych Rockers, Chocolat followed by a great punk band from Brooklyn, New York called Worriers and to end the mix is a fun song by glam rockers Hammered Satin from Los Angeles!

chocolatChocolat is the kind of band that shouldn’t play on a stage; they should be on the same level as the crowd so their energy can crash against us.

0003262897_10Worriers are an American melodic punk collective from Brooklyn, New York. The band’s music is centered on the songwriting of the former vocalist/guitarist of The Measure (SA), Lauren Denitzio. Worriers remains Lauren’s primary band with friends Mikey Erg, Rachel Rubino, Audrey Zee Whitesides, John McClane, and Lou Hanman, among others. They have records out on Don Giovanni Records, No Idea Records and Yo-Yo Records.

HAMMERED-SATINHammered Satin are embodying the sound of the 70’s rockers. With a singer who is taking influences from David Bowie and Robert Plant. You’ve got subtle yet ever important bass lines with guitar solos that should make Deep Purple proud. You can hear Thin Lizzy, Bowie, and a bit of the Ramones. They may look glam on stage, but don’t be fooled – they will knock you out cold with one single blast of their guitars.”- Gears of Music

0916sexstains_lg Sex Stains is an American rock band from Los Angeles formed in 2014 by Allison Wolfe, the former member of Bratmobile, alongside David Orlando, Sharif Dumani, Francisco “Pachy” Garcia, and Mecca Vazie Andrews. In 2016, the band had released their debut album, eponymously titled “Sex Stains”

IMG_0959 For fans seeking the freshness of a revival of the 1970s glam that birthed the likes of Slade of the Sweet, you are in for a treat with Italy’s Junkshop stompers, Faz Waltz. Since forming in 2007, each release see’s Faz Waltz continuing to produce a polished and vibrant sound. Their music that mixes the gritty aspects of glam rock while injecting itself with the high energy of power pop. Their style contains certain elements that nod toward the simplicity and infectiously poppy nature found with Gary Glitter, but with an overwhelming electrified rocking sensation longing for Jook or Hammersmith Gorillas.

50f86d49b1356Armed with a swaggering attitude and crunchy riffs, Big Eyes deliver a modern take on punk rock and power pop. As singer/guitarist Kate Eldridge’s bands Cheeky and Used Kids split up, she formed Big Eyes in Brooklyn in 2009 along with bassist and Kicking Spit/Seasick alum Mark Bronzino and drummer C.J. Frederick. They debuted with a demo 7” and cassette the next summer, followed that December by the Why Can’t I 7” for the Don Giovanni label. The trio embarked on its first U.S. tour as 2011 began, offering a self-titled EP that spring. Big Eyes’ full-length debut, Hard Life, arrived that summer for Don Giovanni, as the band relocated to Seattle, parting ways with Bronzino and bringing in Keith Spencer to handle bass duties on the road.

gym_shorts Gymshorts was formed in 2012 with lead guitarist, Devin Demers. “We wrote songs and tried to find a band for a year.” Sarah was living in New York and commuting to Providence, RI for the band. “I like driving and some of the songs I wrote came from the commute.” In 2013, she moved to Providence.

This week’s mixtape features tracks by 70’s L.A. Punk legends The Dickies very fun video of them covering the Banana Splits Theme song followed by Glam Rock unknowns Catapult performing Let Your Hair Hang Down followed by Drifty Garage Rockers Death Valley Girls‘ video Disco. Have ideas for the next mixtape I’m open for suggestion. Comment below!

dickies_promo_1979 The Dickies were among the first punk rock band to emerge from Los Angeles. They formed in early 1977 after guitarist Stan Lee and bassist Billy Club saw The Damned on their first American tour. The band made their live debut at the Whisky A Go Go in September of the same year. The Dickies were the first California punk band to appear on network television and the first California punk band to be signed to a major record label (A&M Records).

catapult The band Catapult formed in the Summer of 1973 when during a holiday in the Spanish resort of Lloret de Mar, Geertjan Hessing, Erwin van Prehn, Aart Mol and Cees Bergman decided to form a band. The four were veterans of the Dutch rock scene but had achieved little success up to that time. Later that year keyboard player Michael Eschauzier joined them. The band’s name was suggested by Golden Earring vocalist Barry Hay.

downloadThey take human shape as they approach, the full moon clarifying their silhouettes and a breeze sweeping long tangled hair from their faces, presenting Bonnie Bloomgarden flanked by blond Death Valley Girls bandmates The Kid and Pickle, “666” and pentagrams scrawled on their foreheads with eyeliner. The presence of their lone male bandmate, Larry Schemel, is the least supernatural thing about this gang. At first impression, he looks like a regular guy who just happens to roll with hell-spawned goddesses. Soon enough, it becomes evident that his apparent normalcy is a disguise. He’s as far-out as the girls, and together they exist in a world of ghosts, mummies, UFOs, conspiracy theories, aliens, demons, and rock & roll.
